I can't get a link, so I am quoting from this article in the Dec, 14, 2006 edition of The Lancaster New Era:

Rendell Urges Action Against 'Puppy Mills', Harrisburg (AP)

"Gov. Ed Rendell urged a new Dog Law Advisory Board to push for tough enforcement of laws to combat the state's reputation as a haven for 'puppy mills'.. some kennel owners at the board's first meeting Wednesday complained that the cost of meeting proposed requirements could drive them out of business.

Rendell appointed the new board in October, created a new post of special deputy secretary for dog law enforcement, named a special dog law prosecuter and created four kennel compliance specialist posts to assist state dog wardens with inspection of large kennels.

'We were really undermanned and undergunned in enforcing the dog law', said Rendell, owner of two golden retrievers.

Robert Yarnell Jr., president of the American Canine Association of Phoenixville, said complying with the proposed lighting, ventilation, temperature and sanitation standards, and a doubling of cage sizes could cost anywhere from $50,00 to $300,00.

Nathan Myers, licensed for more than 250 dogs at his Lancaster County kennel said the proposals seemed likely to put kennels out of business.."

Nice to know someone's paying attention. The "out of business" part sounds fine to me.

Last summer I worked with a group called United Against Puppy Mills to gather 100,000 signatures on a petition to get this legislation passed.

I copied and posted that article with a big grin

on my face!

And I will keep you all posted about how this sorts out-
