Default Proposed "Meghans Law" For Animal Abusers

Philly Dawg

(Scroll down to second Feb. 28th post)

Quote:

"A 1997 Northeastern University study found that 70 percent of violent criminals committed more than one violent crime and 40 percent of them had abused animals.
Now a California lawmaker thinks that's reason enough to create a Megan's Law for pets. Under the bill, the state would establish mandatory registration system and community notification for those convicted of felony animal abuse. It would be supported by a 3-cent levy on pet food."

As ussual a politition using irrelevent statistics to make a grab from more revenue. What is ipportant in such a debate would be the percentage of animal abusers that go on to commit violent crimes, it is likely this number is well below 40%. An while they are at it would it not make a hell lot more sense to register violent criminals first since their is much higher corrolation their?. This is nothing more than a grab for more tax money in a financial strapped state in the quise of addressing a "public good" which never materializes or was not needed in the first place.
