Can a non AKC registered dog enter a AKC field trial event?

Short answer is "no." For AKC rules see: Chapter 7: Entry Requirements and Eligibility

You can apply for an ILP number to enter other AKC performance events such as hunt tests, obedience, tracking and agility.

Also Dean and others can tell you about AHBA hunts open to any basset hound.
