Thanks for the info Betsy, and the thoughts Barbara. I'll pick her up tommorrow am. This is breaking my heart. I feel so guilty and responsible....middle aged, a tad overweight, out of shape Basset (and me). My fault, or is it the 1 1/2 yr old 100 lb. Lab puppy playing with her??!! I don't know when this happenned. I'll be going to the specialist this week with her. Thank you both, Belinda.

Oh, Belinda, don't feel guilty. We love them so much, but just can't control many of their health problems, hard as we try and as well meaning as we are.
Many years ago, I had a hound who had a herniated disc at a youngsih age--probably about 7 or so, I think. She lived to be 14 and 1/2, and with a long rest and medication, did fine, with no reoccurences that I can remember.

Poor Molly! How bad is she?
I've had two hounds who had disc problems. Myrtle had surgery the first time (at six), the second time she was eight and recovered without surgery. She lived to be 12 1/2 although she always walked like she was coming home from a bar. Mouse, on the other hand, was in such incredible pain that I had to send her to the bridge. BTW, Myrtle was resting under the bed when her back went the second time, and she was not overwieght. Sometimes it just seems to happen.

I agree.....sometimes it justs happens. May be poor genes. Will be thinking of you both and hoping for a speedy recovery.
My lab Jack, was diagnosed at a little over a year old with having hip displasia....just poor genetics.

Molly is home and seems to be doing well. I'm taking her for a MRI as soon as I can get an appointment. My Dad came today and took Stryker for the week. The calmer the household for her the better. She's on prednisone and I'm crating her. The vet seemed very optimistic. There is no paralysis and she's getting around fine. Barbara and Miriam, what procedures did you use with your dogs? Thanks so much everyone, Belinda.
