Default Weight Loss Food

So the Doctor said that Lucy should lose some weight to help with her back problem ( and just in general she has gotten a little chunky). Once she finished off her current food (Nutrisource Chicken and Pea) I went and picked her up some Nutrisource Weight Management.

We tried it starting Monday. She ate it until last night, she sniffed it and ate 2 pieces then went and laid down. Same thing this morning. Me being a paranoid dog owner was like "This is it, she has stomach cancer and she's dying...". I decided to test her though. Gave her a treat, she ate it. (OKay maybe she isn't dying then...). Then I gave her a scoop of our English Setter's Nutrisource Prairie Select Duck and Quail and she of course jumped up, ran over and ate the whole thing.

So I just spent money on a dog food she hates... great.

Any Suggestions on something delicious to maybe mix in with the Weight Management Yucky food that is low calorie to not counter act the original goal of losing weight, but might make her want to eat it?!

I wouldn't worry, when she's hungry she'll eat it. And if it's less palatable, she's more likely to only eat what she NEEDS and not to excess.

Not a big fan of weight loss food in that the high fiber high carb diet is just as ineffective in dogs as humans. the key to weight loss is feeding less.

A high protein high fibre diet improves weight loss in obese dogs

"I wouldn't worry, when she's hungry she'll eat it. "

A healthy dog will not starve itself , unlike cats which are know put a premium on palatability. The one caveat is dogs will avoid spoiled food. The nature of Kibble makes it is sometime difficult to see mold that has formed on it.

have used Hills maintenance light on dogs for weight control. Some are not a fan of Hills..... we've had good results with it for almost 30 years.
