Hi - Bassett friends, Howie my lemon and white 13 year old boy was put down last night. He had many health issues that he had been strogling with for years. He had arthritis in is back legs,iderable bowel disease, was diagnosed with Glaucoma at age six. He recently went completely blind about 7 months ago but was getting around great. Howie had been starting to go down hill slowly but he still loved to eat. He always had the best care and food that money could buy... salmon & organic veggies!!! His hair was falling out like crazy just to go outside to go potty became a chore. My last night with Howie was the worse he kept vomiting through the night. When morning came I try to feel him is favorite meal he had no interest my vet said to bring him in ASAP. After running blood test which came back with a large tumor near the pancreas we just knew it wasn't fair to Howie to keep him alive. He is now in peace and over the Rainbow Bridge. I am so sad..... His hair is everywhere around my home along with his beds,bowls etc. He was my son not just my dog he was my whole life. I dont wish anyone this pain or loss and hurt my heart is so empty. Thank you for reading!!

Words are hard to find as there is nothing that can be said to console or ease your pain. You did the greatest thing you could have done for Howie, I have a dog with severe problems & it frightens me that one day I too will have to make the same decision but it's always better a little early than to leave it too long. Remember the wonderful times you had, the worst thing about owing dogs is that they are never with us long enough. Sending cyber hugs, take care, vectisvagrant.

Thank you for all the kind thoughts and words. I just can't believe he's gone. I keep thinking I hear his nails walking on my tile floor. Just the comfort of all the Bassett lovers makes me feel a little better.
