Thank you so much everyone. I miss him beyond words. I wish he was still here with me. I hope to see him again when it's my time to go. This is my first loss and I cant believe how much I am hurting.

I am also sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you are comforted to know Howie is up playing with all the other hounds that have crossed. And when it is time, may another deserving hound find its way to your love.

I am so sorry for your loss. And yes I do know how you feel, most of us here have or will know it one day. I have lost 3 basset girls trough the years and I hate to say it but it never gets any easier.
I too have thought I heard my girls after they were gone, just goes with the territory I guess, wishful thinking maybe, I don't know. I just know it is heart breaking and very very hard. People take it differently, some never get another dog because it is just to hard to take the loss. I'm different I seem to just not be able to live without dogs in my life. So while the new dog never does take the place of the one you have lost I find they do fill some sort of hole. I am lost but not, if you know what I mean. I can't even tell you what I would give up to have my girls back, but I would not give up the dogs I have now. Ok I might if I could have my Sweet Pea, Abigail and my Sidney back. Man i miss those girls. You will get better but you will never forget. My thought and prayers go out to you. |

I am so sorry. For those of us who have been in that situation, I am sure they cried reading your post as I just did. I miss my Benson so much. I didn't think I would get another basset but I was truly heartbroken. I rescued Riley about 7 months after Benson was put to sleep. Riley was a 2 yr old beautiful boy and he was thrown over a fence and abandoned in the middle of the night. I am so lucky to have him in my life. He is perfect. Sometimes I look at Riley and I know that Benson sent him to me. Riley needed me as much as I needed him. For the first month after losing Benson, I slept with his empty bed up on the foot of my bed for comfort. Time will help. Bev
