I just realized that Hook 'Em has a hernia. I feel kinda stupid for not checking him yesterday before we left the breeder's house. I made an appointment for Thursday to see if it's something that will require surgery. Regardless, he's well worth the expense and my vet thinks surgery should cost less than $300. Considering that we pretty much paid peanuts for him we don't mind. I don't think our breeder realized so I'm going to let her know so she can check the remaining puppies.
The hernia is about the size of a green pea but when I pushed on it I'm afraid I felt something so I'm going to go ahead and assume the worst. Would it be a bad idea to go ahead and neuter him if he has the surgery now? I know with giant breeds it's best to wait until at least a year old to spay/neuter. |

Often small ones like that will not be a problem, or even close on their own, but of course check with your vet. I'd think it would be okay to wait until he's neutered to have it fixed.
I'm surprised neither the breeder nor their vet noticed this.
