Default Basset Gets Up In The MIddle Of The Night With Growling Stomach Noises

My 6yo female basset wakes me early with a growling stomach. i have tried feeding late night kibble but the problem continues. Last week she wouldnt eat her morning meal but after 10 minutes decided to eat. Her stomach was making loud growling noises and she wanted to eat grass.

I took her straight to the vet because not diving into the food bowl is not normal. Blood work checked out and nothing showed on an xray. vet gave me doggy version of pepcid and low residue canned food. the food caused soft poop so i took her off of that and back on her kibble natural balance grain free. so far she is eating and pooping normally and her energy level is high.

anyone experience this early morning basset wake up call ?. Suggestions please

today im increasing her food a little. currently she is getting 2 cups per day and is 45lb.

You may want to keep a small snack close by and when she gets up with her tummy growling let her have a little bit of something it may calm her stomach enough to get her into morning and regular meal time. Some dogs vomit yellow bile because between the last meal of the day and breakfast the mext morning they get a bit of an upset stomach. If you are feeding her just once daily you may want to break up the feeding into two parts so her stomach stays calm.

Default tummy growling

Is it growling really loud like (you think clearly your poor baby must be starving noises? ) Mine have had those several times over the years. Sometimes one of them will wake up like that or they will start randomly during the day and they eat grass and have no interest in their food. I have realized that they just dont feel good. The best advice my vet ever gave me was this- dogs are very similar to people in many ways- sometimes, just like us, they dont feel good. When our stomach gets upset we lay around, we dont want to eat and we dont want to be bothered. We eat crackers and they eat grass. I let them eat a little grass, poop it out and the next day they are back to normal. I used to let my old vet drive me crazy with the "it could be this or it could be that " so we need to do all these tests and $500.00 later I was leaving their office and they didnt find out anything. When its an emergency, you will know it- otherwise, give them 24 hours or so.

Thanks for the advice. You are so right about $500 later and no answer. I guess no news is good news when visiting the vet.
