So, I noticed that Libby had a growth on one of her back feet last week and took her to the vet today.
At our vet there are several vets you can see. If you indicate no preference of vet you get whoever is available first. OF COURSE I got Dr. No Bedside Manner today! I have worked her once before with our cat and do not like her. With our cat she told me "well her teeth are rotting out of her head". I felt like crap after that comment. We had just rescued our middle aged kitty, and I had no idea her teeth were so bad! She is a good vet I think, but just rude, and always makes me feel like I am the worst pet mom! Today was the same, she had a few zinger comments for me. I think I am going to tell the receptionist to put a note in our file that we don't want to see her again! OK, rant over! ![]() The vet actually found that she has small "finger" like growths on both of her back feet. The growths are on the bottom of her feet between her toes. The vet told me that they are cysts, but didn't seem like she was completely sure. Then I got home and MikeyT had posted on the licking post that Libby may have interdigital furunculosis: Merck Veterinary Manual THANK YOU MikeyT! This sounds like exactly what Libby has going on with her feet! The good news is that the vet gave us cephalexin antibiotic pills and an antibacterial wash for her feet. This is pretty much what the article above recommends, but the antibiotic treatment is only for 14 days (2 pills a day) which may not be long enough. I think if we have to take her back in I will bring some articles on this condition for the vet. Hopefully the vet won't be insulted. I will just joke with them and say I am a librarian so I can't help researching. :O) Has anyone dealt with interdigital furunculosis with their bassets? Oh, Libby needs to have surgery to correct entropion in one eye and a teeth cleaning. We have known about the entropion since we rescued her last summer. Not cheap things to have done, but I think we are going to schedule them for February. Send Libby good surgery and healing vibes! Last edited by jaylii9; 01-27-2012 at 01:14 PM. |

I hope your Libby is much better soon! One of the vets in our office can be snippy too...at times, other times she was quite nice. Might just be me being oversensitive, but no one should be made to feel that way!

Get well soon pup! Noone knows their pooch like their master! Our vet has several trinarians, I have seen one that sounds like yours too! I will only see 2 of them, the others have the degree, but are just cold! Honestly, tell the front desk you only see XXX vetrinarians, if there's a bond with you, there's a bond with your dog. My yuck vet told me there was nothing wrong with my dog, my #1 guy discovered cancer one week later, I'd trust him with my own life now.
