Default Lou went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning

Last night I logged on the computer, and as I was reading that wonderful poem about staying strong and doing the right thing, my old neighbor Pam called.
Pam and I have lived next door to each other for 20 years. We have raised children and pets together. Our families are like one. She bought Riley, Lou's friend the same day from the same store I bought Lou from.

I was crying when she called and she simply said, "Lou is staying strong for you and now it's time to do the right thing."

Last night was awful. His breathing was so labored. He got me up at 4, and I put on my coat and shoes and took him out to the back yard. He picked up the big raw hide bone I bought him yesterday, (that he ignored all day) and took it all around the perimeter of the yard and then buried it. It was like he was saying to me, "I am at peace now". He went back to his bed, and I to mine, and he was just snorting and snorting to breathe. I made the call at 8 and took him in at 10. He never shook like he normally does. They got the I/V in first try and we were both there hugging him and telling him it's Ok and that we love him.

I found strength were I never thought I would have found it. It was that simple act of burying that bone, and my neighbor's wisdom and all of you telling me I will know when the time is right, and your support that gave me that courage and strength to do the right thing.

I will miss my best friend Lou. My screen name is Ed's best friend...Ed was my father who passed 6 years ago from CJD (Mad Cow)...Lou was right by his side always...Dad used to say, "Nothing is too good for Lou". He was right. Thank you all xoxo

My friend's dog died last week. It was so sad for me to see my friend trying to revive her dog.

I am so very sorry to hear that Lou has crossed over to the bridge. It’s a sad day on Cyberhound when we lose one of our hound family members. We cry and grievewith you – please know that. All of us that have had the misfortune to already have a fur baby over the bridge have let our little baby know that a new family member is on their way over and to look out for them. I know it’s too soon to know now but Lou is not alone, he’s surrounded by all of our loved ones and waiting for you to finish out your journey so you can join him again.

I hope the poem helped you in some way know you were doing for Lou what he counted on you to do – help him over and remove the pain and suffering from him. To show him the most painful and final act of love. I’d like to share with you another poem that helped me after I lost my baby – I’m sure it’s too early – but I hope in time you can read it and know Lou is right by your side along with living on in your heart.

Hugs,
Jen~

Last Night
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, and I’m here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels; I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said “it’s me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me, to be so near you every day.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, and then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
And say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.
