Default Ear Cleaning

This topic may have come up before or someone may direct me to where I can find information on Ear Cleaning.

What do you use to clean your Basset's ears?

On my beagle I use hypoallergenic unsented baby wipes to clean the flaps inside (I do not clean down into the canal). Just the ears and the creases. My beagle has no issues but my 3 month old basset babe seems to get hives when I use the wipes on him. I also tried the solution that the vet gave me a couple months back to clean my beagles ears. I woud put the solution on a cotton ball and clean the flaps but he still gets hives. We have a vet appointment on Saturday, Jan. 7th for his next round of shots. Im gonig to bring it up to her but I just wanted some thoughts.

Thanks.

hives are often an allergic reaction take a look at the ingredients of the wipe so you can avoid those in an ear cleaner. ie alcohol etc.

I prefer cotton pad to ball. Warm ear solution to body temp of dog before use. soak pad with solution and stick pad in ear canal and squezze gentely releasing the solution. This is more comfortable for the dsog than squezzing cold solution in the ear and less likely to get a bad reaction from the dog. Massage solution in the ear for 5 minute yes this is a long time let dog shake solution out wipe ear outside and where you can fortably reach in the ear canal

can make a recommendation on ear cleaners without knowing what is in the wipes/

I use wipes for the outer parts of the ear and denes ear cleaner for the canal. It was recommended by the breeder and is one of the more natural ones. It helps get the gunk out. I do this once a week as Monty id a right mucky pup.

I never clean my dog's ears. I go to the groomer to have her all around cleaning except her nails because I personally trim my dog's nail.
