Default Another possible case of lymphoma

Hello everyone and a happy new year to those celebrating!

I'm very new to this forum and found it while researching the health of my boyfriend's basset hound (Jackson).

Over the past few days, both Jackson and his pal Nick (a border collie mix) had loose bowels. In addition to that, Jackson's eyes were very blood shot and the haw in his right eye wasn't readily retracting. We tried benedryll along with an eye wash, which seemed to ease the redness and haw. Meanwhile, Jackson has been acting the same as usual - eating, playing, parking, and drinking water.

This morning, my boyfriend found a swollen lymph node in his neck (possibly two) and took him the the 24 hour vet where they took a biopsy and told him it is most likely lymphoma. The tests come back on Wednesday, however, we have already added fish oil to his diet, and have researched into other things to boost his immune system, just in case.

In your collective experiences, does this sound like lymphoma to you? I suppose I'm desperately trying to find a diagnosis other than that, but I haven't read anything about this type cancer affecting his eyes.

Any help, suggestions or replies are welcome. And, again, I hope you all have a great night.

Hi. Jackson is my dog. A few days ago, his eyes were very bloodshot. At this time, I found one loose stool in the house. That night, I caught Nick in the middle of a pretty runny bowel movement. He slept outside that night. In the morning, I found another loose stool inside. For Christmas, we had a standing rib roast, and the next day, I gave the bones to the dogs. I suspect their loose stools were because of not being accustomed to rib bones. This morning, Jackson's lymph nodes around his ears, and in his throat were very swollen. I took him to the vet, and the lymph nodes on his hind legs were also swollen. I thought Jackson had some sort of infection and needed antibiotics. The vet said that these symptoms looked more like lymphoma. The vet took a biopsy for testing. When she returned, she said it would probably take until Wednesday to get the test results, but it really looked to her like lymphoma. I asked how sure she was, understanding that this was still a guess, but her guess was more educated than most. She said 75% sure.

I'm so sorry. But I don't know much about it. I have lost two bassets to cancer but they were not lymphoma. If it is what it is there maybe something you can do about the diet as cancer feeds on carbs. You can pm me if you want.

Thank you. He's on Wellness Complete Health

Is this a good food to keep him on? If not, what should I switch him to?

I'm sorry about your houndie's illness. Strangely enough, my Scully's red/swollen eyes were what originally prompted me to take her the vet before getting her lymphoma diagnosis. I was fearing that she may have had glaucoma, and then in the days prior to her appointment with the vet, I also felt a lump in her neck. Apparently, these kinds of symptoms in the eyes can indeed be secondary to another internal issue. When we started her on chemo, the issue with the eyes resolved itself, and when her cancer returned after being in remission, it was again her eyes that were the first clue.

Here's hoping that there's a diagnosis other than lymphoma for your hound!

Got the call tonight. It's lymphoma. I'm going to go see an oncologist on Monday.

This really sucks. I'd like to say more, but I'm sure there's a rule about language here.
