Default Help!!! Louie's glands are really swollen!

Normally healthy, I noted that Lou had a lump under his armpit. The following week, he had one on the other side. Then they seemed to get smaller. Today, I was petting him and I noted that both glands are horrible swollen on either side of his neck. Because he is overweight and has so many folds, it's not noticable unless you really look at him.

Anyone have this happen to their dog??

I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow.

It's good that you'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow. I hesitate to reply to this, because I don't want to scare you, but when my Scully-girl had swollen glands pop up out of the blue, it turned out that she had lymphoma. There are, however, other things that could cause that kind of swelling, and it could simply be some kind of infection. Best of luck at the vet tomorrow!

I second what Scully said. It could just be a reaction to something (when my allergy dog was at his worst the nodes on the backs of his legs were swollen), but it could be extremely serious. Definitely needs to be seen by the vet.

Well, the vet confirmed my worst fear...it is lymphoma. I left him there this morning, as I had to work (I work in a hospital and we are very very busy)...so the vet called me at 9 and we talked and decided no needle biopsy, just treat with prednisone 40 mg a day for this week. Visit to vet's next week to taper the pred. Lou has been on pred most of his life (10 mg every other day from May till Oct). I am hoping that the next few weeks will be a remission. I have been crying all day thinking about how I will feel someday when I see someone walking a Basset. Or how I will never see his face go white, although his eyebrows are all white. It's going to be a tough run. When I picked Lou up after work he literally ran to me and started squealing! I am so glad I got to take him home for a while.

I'm so sorry about Lou. We seem to hear the word lymphoma a lot on this forum. I hope the prednisone makes a difference and you have more time with your boy than you expect, and that he is comfortable.

I am so sorry. Many of us know how terrible you feel. Hoping for a long remission.
