Default You ate what?!?!

My dearest, darling, good-girl Lucy got into the garbage can... She has never done this before, ever!!! I'm in total shock! Normally, the garbage can is locked away in the pantry and she can't get to it.

Anyway, I caught her pretty quickly, but she did get lick of a raw egg shell I just had thrown in the garbage. How worried should I be that she got a little raw egg?

They like raw eggs. I've never had one get sick from snatching one.

I keep all my trashcans 6 feet above the ground, bungee corded to the wall. Most people find it odd until they see how tall such a short dog can actually stand up.

It is possible to get selminellosis ie selminella infection from raw eggs though not likely. extra good bacteria ie yogurt culture or probiotics often can squeezes out harmful bacteria from getting a foot hold and even if it does occur it will result in diarrhea which is treatable.

I agree Catherine! If I pull it out from the closed pantry, I normally put it on the counter to where I can use it and then put it away before the girls can get into it! It was my fault for leaving it on the floor by my feet. Sigh!

Thanks guys! I was in a bit of a panic! She seems ok right now, but I did give her some yogurt, like Mikey suggested! I will watch for diarrhea, which if that's the worst, than I consider myself lucky!

Thanks everyone!

Every now and then I put a raw egg in their food. Not to worry.

My parents put a raw egg in about every other meal for their dogs. Generally speaking it won't harm them. They can also eat raw meat.

Something(ok can't remember what it is exactly) in raw eggs will bind to biotin (a B vitamin I believe)and can deplete them of this so it is better to give a cooked egg.I don't know how many can cause a depeletion of Biotin I'm sure no one is over doing it but as a precaution against Samonella as well cook them.

According to what I've read, the yolks contain plenty of biotin, however apparently lightly cooking the eggs makes the whites more digestible.

After seeing one eat an entire gallon of wall paper paste, I am not surprised at anything they might eat. It didn't kill him, but it sure made him constipated.
