Default Paw?

Don't know what to make of this. I'm going to take her to the vet but I have no idea what this could be, literally appeared overnight and didn't improve at all while I was at work during the day.

I have the same exact problem with Lucy - I'll be back in a few with what we do for her to clear it up.

It doesn't seem to be bothering her at all but I can't stand to look at it.

First time she got it – the night my husband got back from our other place he mentioned for me to watch Lucy’s paw – I gave it a check and didn’t look like much – by the next morning it looked like this photo.

I took her right to the vet – it’s an allergy. Here is what we do when she gets it…

Twice a day – AM / PM
Chlorhexidine 3% PS pads – we wipe the affected area
GentaSpray – Spray affected area after wiped with Clorhexidine

During the day every time she goes out – every time she comes in I wipe them down and spry them with a vinegar/water mix and pat dry.

It looks like that also because of her licking it – there are two things I do. First – she needs to wear the cone of shame. Or… When I know I can keep one eye on her 100% of the time – I put a baby socks on her. I’m not sure what size – I just remember one day she had it and I felt so sorry for her that I called my neighbor that has three babies of different ages and asked if I could have different size socks to try on Lucy. The smaller the better – the sock is just to give you time to tell her no if she tries to take it off and lick – if you can’t watch her she must wear the cone unfortunately.

We’ve been dealing with this for years –now it’s not such a big deal – we just watch for her to start licking – when she does I put the sock on her before she can do damage.

Hope this helps...

Jen~

Thanks for the tip. I actually haven't noticed her licking it, but maybe she does it when I'm not home. We'll see what the vet says tonight.

Ouchy Anabelle! I hope your mom and the vet can figure out what it is. I don't know what it is but I was going to suggest it looks like she might have been licking it. I like the sound of baby socks to help keep her from licking. If she's licking it that is. Good luck! Keep us posted.

interdigital Furunculosis
Quote:
Interdigital furuncles, often incorrectly referred to as interdigital cysts, are painful nodular lesions located in the interdigital webs of dogs. Histologically, these lesions represent areas of nodular pyogranulomatous inflammation—they are almost never cystic.

...The most common cause is a deep bacterial infection. Many dog breeds (eg, Shar-Pei, Labrador Retriever, English Bulldog) are predisposed to bacterial interdigital furunculosis because of the short bristly hairs located on the webbing between the toes, prominent interdigital webbing, or both. The short shafts of hairs are easily forced backward into the hair follicles during locomotion (traumatic implantation). Hair, ie, keratin, is very inflammatory in the skin, and secondary bacterial infections are common. Less commonly, foreign material is traumatically embedded in the skin. Demodicosis ( Mange in Sheep and Goats) may be a primary cause of interdigital furunculosis. Canine atopy ( Allergic Inhalant Dermatitis: Introduction) is also a common cause of recurrent interdigital furunculosis.

Vet looked at it under the microscope to make sure it wasn't cancerous. Just a lot of inflammation and puss, and she bled like a stuck pig when they took the sample. Probably just a staph infection though so she's on antibiotics (HUGE ones). So nothing too bad...
