Our dachshund's recent blood work showed evidence of elevated liver enzymes- she's taking Denamarin, a nutritional supplement prescribed by the vet, for 30 days, then will be retested-

Her vaccinations are on hold, including rabies- the vet said that if her levels continue to be elevated, she shouldn't have vaccinations- she'd be getting a 'medical exemption' from the rabies vaccine which is required by law.

Does anyone have a dog in a similar situation?

Had one dog with elevated liver function studies, who was subsequently diagnosed with liver cancer. Now have another one with mild elevation, who had X-rays and negative ultrasound. She's finished her Denmarin, and will have her labs redone to see where they're at.

I don't want to alarm, but Sadie's liver enzymes were elevated just before she was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. That is what led the vet to do further tests which discovered the cancer. I hope all goes well with your baby.

I had one dog with elevated liver enzymes at about 2 years of age. She got congestive heart failure at 13, and died from that. The vets were never able to figure out what caused the elevated enzymes--they'd go up and down, but rarely were normal. In retrospect, my vet thought it might have been a case of mild bowel inflammation. So, don't be too alarmed yet.

Thanks for posting- I appreciate it! Her follow-up appointment is on the 24th, so I guess we'll know if this is serious or not by the end of the month-

Here's Minna and Paul last December before our community Christmas parade:

I sure hope Minna will be okay. She's such a doll.
