Let me tell you a story...about 3 week`s ago my one of my dearest hound`s had puppy`s.It was a large litter so the pup`s were small, the mother`s milk began to dry up so we had to hand feed 3 and nurse Mom back with added diet and still allow 3 pup`s to nurse on her.It took a week to get her producing milk and to get her to feeling better. Because we have been raising hound`s all our live`s we recognized what was happening and had time before the pup`s died.I still feel giulty because I didn`t react a day sooner but the point is if you don`t know what your doing thing`s happen real fast.Mother could die from giving birth and pup`s can needlessly suffer because of ignorance. Some females don`t like some males and will not breed to them, most first time males don`t have a clue, male dog`s during heat can be too aggressive the first week and the female will not breed because she is not ready yet. Most animal`s figure out the sex thing on there own, some don`t. |

Please do the dogs a favor and neuter them both. Whelping can be a nightmare for anyone, especially novices. Besides, why add to the pet population problem?
There have been a number of posts on this subject; please read them for more information. By the way, most experienced breeders either use artificial insemination or a breeding rack to breed bassets. |

BnG, you may have missed a lovely essay from Shannon to MyRosieRoo about the chasm that separates backyard from reputable breeders. Unfortunately, the entire thread seems to have been deleted.

I've sent you the chart by email. It's a Word document attachment. If you have trouble accessing it, please let me know and we'll try something else.

Maybe you need to take a trip to a local rescue group, this may change you mind about breeding. With so many unwanted hounds, do you realy want more to end up that way.
