With a bit more weight behind the shoulders, your Basset is going to be much heavier. Mine were almost all around 70+ lbs for the boys, and marginally lighter for the girls. My current boy weighs in at 38/39 kg. You should try getting that in, and especially out of the bath!!

It's good to know that "French bassets" aren't necessarily smaller in stature. I didnt read that on the internet either. I know they got the mum from Missouri and dad's from Buhl. In fact, it's interesting to know that less well bred ones tend to be smaller. I learned yet another thing today! Thanks guys! This forum is just so precious.

Edee is about 5 yrs old and is 38 pounds and the vet says she looks and feels great. When I rescued her she was 35 lbs yikes!

My Gracie is about 37 pounds at 18 months. She came from a very responsible breeder, and is just small--short and compact. She probably could be as high as 40 pounds, and look ok, but she's working in tracking and obedience, and doesn't need any extra weight.

What am interesting thread, we also have a petite gal, around 40 pounds and looks chubby. She is a rescue and I have always figured she was from a backyard breeder , definitely not a quality example of the breed. She did make us fall for the breed though, so we love her imperfect little self .
