Question Question regarding going into heat

I'm new here. My Basset Hound Kisses is 14 months old, pure bred and full of energy!
My question though. She has yet to go into heat. I was told that she could be going into heat without the blood, but every time? Is this normal? Also, she has yet to fill out. She's still pretty skinny. But like I said, full of energy, has never been sick, etc. She eats very healthy puppy food, and unfortunately, the bits of people food my kids give her. :/

Is she is having "invisible heats," how can I tell? I was told her vulva would swell, but I never really paid attention before. My Dachshund is in heat and Kisses' vulva, well from the back she looks like a male. Is this normal or maybe a heat symptom?

Thanks!

I rarely see blood from my girls, they aren't heavy bleeders and they keep themselves quite clean. But yes, the vulva will swell noticeably and look puffy and as she hits her fertile period she would likely "flag" her tail to one side if you touch her back end.

You might have an easier time detecting blood if you dab a tissue on her vulva once or twice a week.

It is possible that she hasn't been in heat yet, but if she gets more than 18 months old with out ANY signs I would suspect a hormonal abnormality.

If she looks like a male from the back ,I mean really looks like a boy dog,I would get her checked. There is such a thing as a silent heat and she should have only come in season twice so far, your other dog being in heat could bring your basset in season which may be why she possibly looks swollen now. She is a string bean because she isn't mature and fully filled out , probably won't be until she is about 3 years old.
