Rita,

Chloe has never had skin problems (red bumps on belly, smellier than usual, itchy, greasy hair) until this year. I took her to the vet and he suggested that she has seasonal allergies and whatever she is allergic to, was at a very high count this year. I notice that you live in Federal Way -- we live in Redmond. Since our air quality is similar, perhaps Teak has similar issues.

What our vet suggested was: 1)prednisone (prescription) to control itch response and then switch to benadryl as needed 2)antibiotic to clear up secondary infection caused by excessive scratching 3)weekly baths until things clear up (hard to do)

Since you have been struggling with these issues for awhile, a trip to the vet might be in order. I would be concerned that Teak is chewing himself raw because of the possibility of a secondary bacterial infection (open wounds invite infection).

I found it difficult to break Chloe's cycle of itch/scratch/infection without veternary intervention. If you do go to the vet and belong to Costco -- antibiotics are much cheaper at Costco than at the vets. (My vet actually suggested going to Costco. Amazing!)

Good luck!
