We are owned by our first bassett hound and finding it difficult to obtain a good harness for him due to his long body and stout figure. He slips out of his collar since his beautiful neck skin has more girth than his bony head. :) We have to be careful of his armpits getting rubbed by a harness, does anyone have any good suggestions for a comfy harness that doesn't hug his arm pits?

The front cliup harnes clip harnesses like the eas7y walk are less secure than even a flat buckle collar so with a puller or a dog that tends to back out of collars not a good match

any standard adjustable harness that is large enough have enough to adjustment to fit a basset really they are no harder to fit than a lab or other large dog with a harness because the chest demensihions are similar. that sau I have dog that can back out of these the no pull harness the secure under the arm pits are the most secure but thaeh are not intended for tie out continious use on when walking on lead.

We actually use a "travel/carseat" harness that works well...it keeps the boys safe and secure in the car and just attach a leash when arriving and it works great.....doesn't bother them and no one has escaped..and both boys have different builds. Woody is more squat and thicker all over.....where Romeo is a little taller and lankier.....and both boys do will with this harness.

I would just like to add that the ezydog quick fit harness doesn't fit a basset properly (don't know about the chest plate one) they are adjustable but because of the leg shape of the basset the harness rubs at the elbows. I do love their collars though. I use the same harness as Henry's mum but I'm trying to train him to walk more on his collar.

We use the Sporn simple control harness for walking Bogie. It is like a figure 8, with a loop that comes up through a ring on the back that you attach the leash to. It tightens and loosens as needed. It has fleece wrapped sleeves that slide on the harness one under the belly and one around the chest.

It does not rub him under the armpits, gives us good control without pulling on his neck. He has a bad disk in his neck and the vet told us to not use a collar any longer. We have tried several types of harnesses, and we love this one.

I don't have a pic. of Bogie wearing his but here is one from the Sporn website.
